After numerous attempts at retirement, the M61 class of the Hungarian State Railways will be completely withdrawn from service on December 22nd, 2000. The remaining four units will be transferred from Tapolca to Budapest that day, ending the service life of MÁV's most remarkable diesel locomotives. Special thanks shall go to those responsible for this most refined Christmas greeting; for the more decent, there is only one thing I can say: The memory remains.
